Specimen pickup & lab delivery

Specimen Pickup & Laboratory Delivery

Already have a specimen that needs to reach a laboratory? We can pick it up and deliver it to the local lab you choose, following its transport instructions. You won't have to make the trip yourself.

  • $49 per pickup
  • No earlier Stumptown visit required
  • You identify the receiving laboratory
  • Local ground delivery in the Portland area

Order, requisition, or collection paperwork required when applicable

How it works

Pickup, handling, and delivery — not laboratory testing

Stumptown provides specimen transport. The laboratory that receives your specimen performs the testing and provides the results.

Step 1

You collect and store the specimen

Follow the collection, labeling, and storage instructions that came with your order or kit. We cannot correct or replace missing patient or specimen labeling.

Step 2

You tell us where it goes

Give us the receiving laboratory's name and delivery address, along with any order, requisition, or kit paperwork that applies. We can't choose a laboratory for a specimen that doesn't have one.

Step 3

We pick it up and deliver it

We arrive at the time you booked, handle the specimen according to the required transport condition, and deliver it by local ground transport to that laboratory.

The receiving laboratory decides whether a specimen is acceptable for testing. Stumptown provides pickup, handling, and delivery — not laboratory testing — and may decline a pickup when transport or acceptance requirements cannot be verified or safely met.

What's included

Clear service boundaries

Not every specimen is eligible. We'd rather tell you before you book than have a laboratory reject your specimen.

Included

  • Pickup of an eligible specimen you have already collected
  • Handling appropriate to the transport condition your instructions call for
  • Local ground delivery to the receiving laboratory you identify

Not included

  • Laboratory testing — the receiving laboratory performs the testing
  • Interpreting or explaining results
  • Finding a laboratory for a specimen with no identified destination
  • Correcting or replacing missing patient or specimen labeling
  • General courier work unrelated to eligible specimen transport
  • Specimens that must travel on dry ice
  • Highly infectious material and other tightly regulated shipments
  • Frozen specialty shipments, unless we have separately arranged that workflow with you

Requirements

What your specimen needs before we can transport it

  • The specimen must already be collected, labeled, and stored as your instructions describe.
  • You or your provider must identify the receiving laboratory and its delivery address.
  • Any required order, requisition, kit paperwork, or collection documentation must be available when it applies.
  • The container, labeling, timing, temperature, and transport requirements of the receiving laboratory must be met.
  • If we can't verify or safely meet those requirements, we'll tell you and may decline the pickup.

Pricing

$49per pickup

Travel for this service is measured as one trip from our office to your pickup address, on to the receiving laboratory, and back. The same policy applies as every other visit: your first 25 round-trip miles and first 30 minutes are included.

Your first 25 round-trip miles and first 30 minutes of travel are included. Additional travel charges apply only when a visit exceeds those allowances. Premium appointment-time charges apply only when you choose one of those time windows.

Laboratory testing is billed by the laboratory, separately from this service.
